Taking Time Out is Important for your Wellbeing

Have you put time aside each in your Working Day?

Hazel Theocharous tells you why Taking Time Out is so important in your Work Day

So this post is about Making A Change to 'Time For You'...

Having been through such a hard 18 months, I have really had to focus on making sure I am OK and that has meant ensuring I put time in my diary for me.

This morning I took time to go for a walk with a friend of mine - it was 2 hours in total and it was great for my mental wellbeing and a great stress reliever.

So, my question to everyone is what do you do for yourself?

We can be parents, partners, siblings, daughters, sons, business owners, employees, employers, friends etc - but we also need to be ourselves!

We need to be selfish sometimes and take time out. Someone said to me a while ago, if you are a parent, you are a business owner - you have commitments so if you don't look after yourself, how can you look after others? That is so true.

So, in my calendar I have time set aside for me to take time out. Do you?

As we move through our Career Journeys, we get busier and busier - new clients, new roles, new teams. And sometimes it can certainly seem that we cannot cope with everything mounting up.

When we feel like this, we are in overwhelm, stress and anxiety creeps in and then it feels like you cannot cope any longer. But then what is needed is for you as an employee, an entrepreneur or a business owner, is to be able to speak openly about how you feel.

Be able to ask or tell yourself that it is absolutely OK to take your 5 minute break at the end of your hour or every two hours. It is important to take your whole lunch break - preferably away from your desk!

What do you love to do? Say you love to be at the beach, but you cannot be there during your working day or week - then find a series of photos of beaches you have been to - add these as a screen saver and put some music on, stand up at your desk and take time out doing stretches whilst watching your screen saver! OK, you are not at the beach, but it will bring back some wonderful memories helping you relax.

Why do I know this works - because I do it! Yes the beach is my absolute favourite place ever - it is where I relax and by doing the above, I can feel more relaxed.

Have a great rest of today, weekend and month...

CALL TO ACTION: Take a look at your calendars and grab some time for you.
