Day 9: Reduce Filler Words — Speak with Confidence and Clarity
Yes, we all do it - we all have filler words in our speech and conversations. Things like “um,” “like,” “you know,” “basically,” “so…” Guess what, sometimes we don't even know we are saying them until someone points them out! But it is a good things to know because we can then become more conscious about using them.

But while they’re completely normal, too many can make us sound unsure, rushed or unprepared, especially in interviews, presentations or important conversations.
What is good news?
You don’t need to eliminate them, just try and reduce them.
And the secret is simple : Slow down and replace fillers with a pause.
Why this works:
Pausing signals confidence
It gives your brain a moment to catch up
It makes your words sound more intentional
It helps your message land more clearly
Filler words appear when we’re speaking faster than we’re thinking.
A pause fixes that instantly.
Try this technique today:
In your next meeting or conversation, speak slightly slower than usual
Use a pause instead of filling the silence
Notice how others respond differently
If you want to practise, record yourself speaking for 30 seconds and listen back, you’ll be surprised at what you notice.
Reducing fillers isn’t about perfection.
It’s about creating space for your voice to feel calm, grounded and powerful.
